Getting Started With Mindfulness

Mindfulness helps us to engage and become aware of our surroundings, our emotions and helps to combat feelings of being overwhelmed, anxious and stressed.

For some, practising mindfulness is a great grounding technique that can help them become more clear-headed and able to react in a more suitable way when presented with difficult situations. 

There are many different ways to practise mindfulness and there is no rulebook to follow. Using methods that work well for you as an individual can take a lot of trial and error, however, incorporating these practices into your daily life can be very beneficial. 

One way to begin practising mindfulness is to set aside time every day to meditate. This is a good way to introduce yourself to mindfulness and give yourself the time to clear your mind and relax.

Once you become comfortable doing this, you may want to begin introducing this into other parts of your life. You can do this while walking, driving or even doing daily tasks such as cleaning or cooking. 

By allowing yourself the space to clear your head, ground yourself and practise it often, you will begin to notice that the benefits of mindfulness are felt throughout the day rather than just during meditation time. 

Frequent practice of mindfulness can help reduce overall stress levels and bring more positive emotions to the front of your mind, allowing you a break from the negative ones. 

Once you fully embrace mindfulness, you may start noticing that you no longer actively engage in meditation or mindful activities but that they become part of your natural daily routine. 

Regardless of how you choose to be mindful, giving yourself this important breathing space can really help you slow down and appreciate much more around you instead of becoming easily overwhelmed by little things.
